Gonorrhea is one of the different sexually transmitted diseases. It is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterial infection. Which can infect both men and women.
It damages the genitals, mouth, eyes, throat, intestines and can affect the uterus in women. It affects the warm and humid places of the body. Symptoms include painful bowel movements, bleeding from the genitals, burning pain during urination, period problems in girls, and so on.
It also spreads from infected mothers to babies during delivery. In children, the infection affects their eyes. When this happens, there are usually no symptoms. So, you may not realize that you have diabetes
. The disease mostly affects men more than women.
Causes of gonorrhea:
Gonorrhea is caused by a bacterium called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Through sex, it spreads the virus from an infected person to another. It can spread to the vagina, mouth or anus in any way.
A woman who has sex with a man with gonorrhea has the highest risk of contracting the disease. However, having sex with a woman with gonorrhea makes a man much less likely to get the disease. However, the risk is much higher for gay men.
Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea
Symptoms of gonorrhea appear within 2 to 14 days of contact with a person. Some people do not have symptoms of this disease. The symptoms of this disease are different in both men and women. Discuss it below.
Symptoms of gonorrhea in men are usually different from urinary incontinence.

The symptoms of gonorrhea in women are-
- Vaginal discharge
- Frequent urination

Diagnosis: The doctor will know the patient’s history to check if the gonorrhea bacteria are present in the patient’s body. Then, samples of male urethra and female vaginal discharge will be collected using a swab stick, although in the case of men only urine samples can also be tested.
Treatment: Antibiotics are the most effective treatment for gonorrhea infections. Such as ceftriaxone, azithromycin, doxycycline etc. This disease can be cured through proper treatment. However, if you have a bacterial infection during pregnancy, you should seek medical advice immediately.
Prevention: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the only way to reduce the risk of gonorrhea is to avoid vaginal, anal or oral sex. To prevent this disease, the following should be done-

- Ask your partner to check for sexually transmitted infections
- Avoid sexual intercourse with more than one person
